Cardinals Host #2 North Carolina on Senior Night

It will be the fifth Top-10 opponent the Cardinals face this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is back at home for the regular season finale on Thursday and another Top-10 opponent awaits the Cardinals. Louisville is set to face off with the second-ranked Tar Heels at 6 p.m. ET from Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium and the match will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
Thursday will be Senior Night as the graduating class will be honored prior to the match. Sarah Hernandez, Patricia Ward, Ravin Alexander, Riley Mullady, Corinne Dente and Maisie Whitsett will all be honored for their accomplishments for the program before kick off against North Carolina.
The second-ranked Tar Heels are another ranked opponent the Cardinals will face this season. North Carolina is the seventh ranked team Louisville will face this season and the Tar Heels are the fifth top-10 opponent on the Cardinals schedule. This will be just the second time the Cardinals will face a ranked team at home this season.
History was made last week for Louisville as Karen Ferguson-Dayes clinched win No. 200 in the 1-0 win over NC State. She is the program's winningest head coach and was named the United Soccer Coaches Women Coaches Community Coach of the Week for the accomplishment.
ABOUT THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina comes into the matchup with a 14-3 record and 7-2 in conference play and are the second-ranked team in the country. The Tar Heels have won their last five games in a row and won both road games last week against #4 Florida State (2-1) and Miami (4-0). Junior Avery Patterson leads the Tar Heels with nine goals and 21 points on the season. Emmie Allen has seen a majority of time in goal and has made 32 saves with a .821 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals trail the all-time series between the two schools 1-3-1. In games played in Louisville, the Cardinals are 1-2-0 against the Tar Heels. Louisville knocked off the top-ranked Tar Heels in overtime, 2-1, back on October, 8, 2015. It was the first time in program history that the Cardinals defeated the No. 1 team in the country.
