Louisville wins 3-1 to stay unbeaten in ACC play
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Outside hitter Claire Chaussee had 18 kills to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a win over Virginia Tech in four sets 25-21, 25-13, 20-25, 25-18 Friday night in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Louisville moves to 16-1 and is now 7-0 in ACC play. The Cardinals hit .351, tallied eleven blocks, and had four aces. Chaussee hit .455 and had 10 digs and two blocks. Aiko Jones and Amaya Tillman each had 11 kills. Tillman hit .526 and had a team-high seven blocks. Nena Mbonu had 10 kills, one ace, three digs, and two blocks. Setter Raquel Lazaro recorded 45 assists, two aces, eight digs, and five blocks. Sophomore libero Elena Scott had 13 digs and one ace.
With her 19 kills, Claire Chaussee is one kill away from joining the 1000-Kill Club.Â

Virginia Tech hit .187 and had seven aces and six blocks. The Hokies were led by Cera Powell who had 12 kills, one ace, five digs, and two blocks.

The Cards and the Hokies traded points to start the match until Virginia Tech jumped out to a three point lead at 8-5. Back-to-back points from the Hokies forced Louisville to use their first timeout at 11-6. A solo block from Tillman and back-to-back kills from Chaussee brought the Cards within one. A kill from Jones tied the score at 13-13 and made Virginia Tech call a timeout. UofL took the lead at 17-16 and then a block from Tillman and Lazaro gave the Cards a two-point lead at 19-17. The Hokies used their second timeout after a kill from Mbonu extended the UofL lead to 20-17. A block from Cara Cresse pushed the score to 22-19. The Cards kept rolling and won the first set 25-21 on a kill from Jones. Mbonu and Chaussee led the team with five kills each.

A block by Cresse and Mbonu tied the score at 8-8. Back-to-back aces from Lazaro gave the Cards the 10-8 lead. A kill from Mbonu forced the Hokies to call a timeout at 11-8. Back-to-back kills from Jones pushed the UofL lead to 15-10. Tillman crushed an overpass to force Virginia Tech to use their final timeout at 18-11. A block from Mbonu and Tillman pushed the score to 21-12. UofL won set two 25-13 on a kill from Cresse. Chaussee led with eight kills and Tillman led with four blocks.

UofL went up 2-1 to start the third set. A long rally that ended with a block by Tillman and Lazaro tied the score at 4-4. The teams continued to battle until the Hokies took a 12-9 lead. Virginia Tech had the 15-11 lead heading into the media timeout. An ace from the Hokies pushed their lead to 18-12 and caused UofL to call a timeout. Back-to-back points from Virginia Tech forced the Cards to use their final timeout at 20-13. A kill from Chaussee closed the gap to 23-18. A kill from Mbonu forced the Hokies to use their timeout at 24-20. The break served the Hokies well as they won the third set 25-20. Chaussee led the Cardinals with 13 kills hitting .480.
