Cardinals Set to Host Home Opener

Louisville will face Cincinnati, Marshall and Miami this weekend at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team will open its spring season Friday, Jan. 20 when the Cardinals host regional rivals Cincinnati (11 a.m.) and Marshall (4 p.m.) at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals will then play host to Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the BRTC. Â

This weekend marks the Cardinals spring opener after the winter break. UofL is led by the No. 31 ranked doubles team of Andrea DiPalma and Rhea Verma. Chelsea Sawyer and Verma led the Cards in singles last year with Sawyer posting a 11-8 record and Verma going 14-6 in singles.

Cincinnati opened its spring season with a 5-2 loss to Purdue. Red-shirt seniors Emma Micelli and Ioana Guna return to the team for a fifth season and will look to guide the team through leadership on and off the court. Emma Micelli currently sits in the seventh spot all-time in career singles wins with 68, eighth all-time in career doubles with 56, and seventh all-time in career wins with 124.

The Marshall University tennis team opened their spring season at (1-1) after a split a pair of duals on last Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, falling to the No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers, 7-0, and sweeping the Longwood Lancers, 4-0.

The Miami University tennis team fell to Kentucky 5-2 last weekend Miami is now 0-1 on the season, while Kentucky improves to 3-0. Both Brindtha Ramasamy and Laura Rico picked up individual wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles versus the Wildcats. The Redhawks will play Friday against University of Indianapolis and Butler before heading to the Ville for Sunday's match.
