Women's Tennis Opens 2021 Fall With Trip to Purdue Invite

Cardinals will tackle Butler, Miami and Purdue in W. Lafayette
LOUISVILLE, Ky.– The University of Louisville women's tennis team will be competing in their first fall invitational this season as they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to compete in the Purdue Invitational.

The event will be held at the Schwartz Tennis Center from Friday, Sept. 24 to Sunday, Sept. 26. The Cardinals join Butler, Miami (OH) and Purdue as the four teams competing in the invitational.

The Cardinals are coming off a 2020-21 season that saw head coach Mark Beckham's team go 9-13 in the spring. The team returns six players from last season including Andrea Di Palma and Rhea Verma, who are ranked No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women's Preseason Rankings. The Cardinals are also welcoming four newcomers including Alabama transfer Sasha Gorchanyuk.

Butler is coming off a 6-10 season that saw them advance to the Big East quarterfinals to finish their season. The Bulldogs return Natalie Boesing who earned first team All-Big East honors for the 2020-21 campaign.

Miami (OH) finished 10-13 last season including matches with Louisville and Butler that resulted in a 7-0 loss and a 7-0 win respectively. The Redhawks are coming off a doubles victory and four singles wins this past weekend at the Pam Whitehead Invitational.

The invitational host Purdue went 6-11 for the 2020-21 season and welcomes four returners and four newcomers. The Boilermakers will be competing in seven tournaments this fall.
