No. 5 Cardinals Set to Face No. 6 Nebraska in Lincoln

UofL takes its 8-0 record on the road
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 5 University of Louisville volleyball hits the road for a second consecutive top 10 matchup as they take on No. 6 Nebraska in Lincoln on Saturday, Sep. 18 at 8 pm E.T.

Louisville and Nebraska have only met five times before this weekend's matchup with Nebraska taking home wins in all five contests. The last meeting was between the two teams was 3-0 Nebraska win on Sep. 8, 2006. This season, the Huskers are off to a 6-2 start and enter the match off consecutive losses to No. 20 Utah and No. 16 Stanford. Led by head coach John Cook (21st season), Nebraska has won four national championships in six finals appearances. Last season, the team reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament with a 16-3 record on the year. The Huskers are led by outside hitter Lexi Sun, middle blocker Kayla Caffey and setter Nicklin Hames. Sun, a 2020 All-Big Ten First Team honoree, is the team's top offensive player, tallying 73 kills with 11 aces and 14 blocks on the year. Caffey, recently named Big Ten Player of the week, is second on the team with 68 kills on a team high .443 hitting percentage, also accumulating 32 blocks, second most for the Huskers. Hames, another 2020 All-Big Ten First Team honoree, has a team high 229 assists and ranks second in digs with 74.

The Cardinals remain unbeaten, improving to 8-0 after a five-set win over No. 8 Kentucky. The match against Nebraska will mark the third top 10 contest for Louisville in eight days. UofL's offense features five players with 60-plus kills, including three with 70 or more. Anna DeBeer leads the team with 78 kills, hitting .322 with 60 digs and three aces. Anna Stevenson is second on the team with 77 kills with a .441 hitting percentage, adding 31 blocks and six aces. Claire Chaussee adds 70 kills and 47 digs with Aiko Jones tallying 66 kills, 45 blocks and a team high 20 aces. Amaya Tillman leads the Cardinals with 51 blocks, adding 60 kills on a .439 hitting percentage. Rounding out the starting six, Elena Scott paces the Cards with 113 digs and Tori Dilfer has recorded a team leading 317 assists. Louisville is third the country and first in the conference with 3.18 blocks per set and rank second in the ACC with a .314 hitting percentage, .135 opponent hitting percentage, and 98.5 total team blocks.
