Cardinals Have Three Named as Candidates for CSCAA Top 100 Swimmers in History

Joao De Lucca, Mallory Comerford and Kelsi Worrell Dahlia named as candidates
The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) announced the candidates for its centennial list of 100 Greatest Swimmers & Divers. Nine hundred and seventy-three (973) candidates, dating back more than 100 years were selected from 2,805 nominees. They will now go to a Blue Ribbon Panel of voters who will be charged with narrowing the selections to one hundred men and one hundred women. In total, 221 schools had at least one athlete named a finalist. Of the nominees, 739 were swimmers and 234 were divers.
Cardinal NCAA Champions and Olympians Joao De Lucca, Mallory Comerford and Kelsi Worrell Dahlia made the nominee list for the Cardinals.Â
The Michigan men topped the list of nominees among Division I programs. The Wolverines have twenty-three nominees led by Gustavo Borges and Tom Dolan. Kenyon College led all schools with 31 men's finalists followed by Simon Fraser (27) and Drury (26). Stanford's women had twenty nominees highlighted by Tokyo Olympians Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel. With 28, Simon Fraser had the most women's finalists, while Kenyon followed with nineteen.
Separated by sport, Ohio State had the most men's divers advancing with thirteen of their nineteen finalists coming from the boards. Clarion had eleven women and twenty divers total make the ballot.
Other notable names on the list of nominees included at least twenty Tokyo Olympians including Florida's Kieran Smith, Bobby Finke, and Caeleb Dressel, Maggie MacNeill (Michigan) Brandon Loschiavo (Purdue), Paige Madden (Virginia), Andrew Wilson (Emory), Texas's Jordan Windle and Townley Haas, Georgia's Allison Schmidtt, Olivia Smoliga, and Chase Kalisz, Indiana's Lily King and Andrew Capobianco and Tom Shields, Ryan Murphy, Nathan Adrian, and Andrew Selkisar from California.
In addition to naming the 100 Greatest Swimmers & Divers, the association will also name 100 Great and Pioneering Coaches, 100 Alumni of Impact, and Centennial MVP's for every team. Nominations for these awards are still being accepted at https://www.cscaa.org/centennial.
