Harting Swims in Semifinals in 200M Fly at Tokyo Olympics

Harting is first Cardinal to advance to an Olympic Semifinals in an individual event
TOKYO -- University of Louisville swimmer Zach Harting boarded a 1:55.35 in the semifinals of the 200M Butterfly in Tokyo at the Olympic Games.

Harting finished fourth in the first heat that was won by South Africa's Chad Le Clos, who was the Olympic gold medalist in the event in London. Le Clos was the last swimmer to qualify for the semifinals, but regrouped to put up a 1:55.06 to win from the outside lane in a tightly contested finish. In the second heat of the semifinals, world record holder Kristof Milak of Hungary pulled away from the field to put up a 1:52.22 in a very fast heat.

It will be a busy day for the Cardinals tomorrow morning as Andrej Barna will swim in the prelims of the 100M Freestyle for Serbia. Incoming freshman Murilo Sartori will be swimming in the 4x200 Freestyle Relay for Brazil. Marcelo Acosta will be on the blocks for the 800M Freestyle for El Salvador with the session beginning at 6 a.m. ET.
