No. 18 Louisville Gets ACC Road Win at Virginia Tech
April 03, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
Ally Hall led the way with five goals as the Cardinals won 13-9 at Virginia Tech.
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior attacker Ally Hall led the way with five goals as No. 18 University of Louisville women's lacrosse won 13-9 at Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Cardinals to 5-6 on the year and 1-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Virginia Tech falls to 3-7 and 0-5 in league play.
Â
"We had a really good start which got us going in the right direction and we were able to build a lead. We made enough plays at the end to secure the win," said head coach Scott Teeter. "Ally had a great game. We thought she had an advantage coming in and we needed every one of her goals today."
Â
Louisville jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with goals from Caroline Blalock, Hall and Kokoro Nakazawa in the first five minutes. After the Hokies pulled to within 3-2, Hall scored back-to-back goals and Allegra Catalano added another to build the lead to 6-2 with 17:37 left to go in the first half.
Â
Hannah Morris then added a goal with three minutes left in the half and the Cardinals went into the break with a 7-4 lead.
Â
The Cardinals scored five of the first six goals to start the second half to extend the lead to 12-5 and cruised to a 13-9 win.
Â
The win marks the Cardinals' first ACC win since a 9-8 win over Syracuse on April 22, 2017 and the first in Teeter's tenure. Their last ACC road win was a 13-12 overtime win at Virginia Tech on April 1, 2017.
Â
"It's great to get this win today and our players are really excited. It's especially great for our seniors that believed in the process," said Teeter.
Â
Hall finished with a career-high tying five goals on seven shots, while adding an assist and two ground balls. Caroline Blalock stuffed the stat sheet with three goals, two assists, four caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls.
Â
Morris and Nakazawa finished with two goals apiece for the Cardinals.
Â
Rachel Florek had another strong game in net, recording 10 saves in the win.
Â
Next up, the Cardinals return home to host Duke at Cardinal Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will broadcast on ACC Network.
