Florida State won the first game 10-0.
Â
Louisville (17-22, 11-16 ACC) and Florida State (32-7, 20-3) will wrap up the series with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Prior to the first game, the Cardinals will honor the departing senior class of 2021. Â
Â
Louisville 5 – No. 7/7 Florida State 1
In the second game of Friday's double header, Taylor Roby registered three strikeouts and did not give up a hit until an infield single by Kiersten Landers in the sixth. After an unearned run in the third inning, she did not allow a runner to move into scoring position until the sixth inning when a Louisville miscue allowed Landers to take second.
Â
"Roby had a tremendous pitching performance," said UofL head coach Holly Aprile. "She hit her spots really well, she's got that change up going a little bit. It was just a really great job by here and they have a tough lineup to face with a variety of things they do and their speed."
Carmyn Greenwood got the scoring started with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.
Â
The Seminoles answered with an unearned run in the third when an error allowed Devyn Flaherty to reach and move to second. She advanced to third and was safe at the plate on back-to-back groundouts to even the score at 1-1.
Â
The Cardinals struck again in the home half of the inning when Greenwood, led off with a hit and stole second. After a hit by Maddy Newman, an error on Makayla Hurst's fielder's choice sent Greenwood home to put Louisville back on top 2-1.
Â
Louisville tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth when walks by Taryn Weddle and Cassady Greenwood set up Celene Funke's RBI double. Carmyn Greenwood followed with a two-run single to push the Cardinals' lead to 5-1.
Â
In addition to Carmyn Greenwood's three-hit, three-RBI performance, Newman, Roby, Hurst, Charley Butler and Funke each had a hit in the game to help the Cardinals outhit the Seminoles 8-1.
Â
Caylan Arnold (9-5) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out five in 3.2 innings.
Â
"Today was a tale of two different versions of us, and that's not taking anything away from Florida State, they are a tremendous team with a really challenging pitching staff to battle against," said UofL head coach Holly Aprile. "I think in game one, we started off pretty well, but after a host of different things happened, we weren't able to regroup and we let it get away from us."
