The Cardinals managed 10 shots with four on goal, but could not find the back of the net.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite having nine shots in the second half, University of Louisville women's soccer fell 1-0 at Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 5-7 on the year and 1-2 in the spring, while the Hilltoppers improve to 6-1-1 on the season.
Two minutes in, Western Kentucky got on the board when Sydney Ernst found Annah Hopkins on a corner kick to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.
Taylor Kerwin tried to even things up at the 17-minute mark, but her shot sailed high and that would be Louisville's only shot of the first half.
Gabby Kouzelos kept the Cardinals in the game with four first half saves.
Midway through the second half, Delaney Snyder looked to get Louisville on the board as she fired two shots in a 15-minute stretch, but both shots were saved by WKU goalkeeper Ashley Kobylinski.
In the last three minutes, the Cardinals had several chances to tie it, but Morgan Bentley and Sarah Hernandez's shots were saved and Ravin Alexander and Kerwin's shots were off target.
After getting just one shot in the first half, Louisville finished with 10 shots to WKU's nine. The Cardinals had four shots on goal to the Hilltoppers' six.
Kouzelos finished with five saves in the game as the Louisville defense limited Western Kentucky's scoring opportunities in the second half.
Louisville returns to action in two weeks when they host Tennessee on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. ET.
