Saturday’s kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Winston-Salem, N.C.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team closes out its last road trip of the regular season when it takes on Wake Forest on Saturday night. Kickoff from Winston-Salem is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Before dropping its latest match at Boston College, Louisville won consecutive matches for the first time this season after opening the spring season with a 3-0 win at NC State and returning home to defeat Syracuse 3-1 on March 12.
Pedro Fonseca leads the team with 11 points, contributing four goals and three assists in his junior campaign. Elijah Amo ranks second on the team with three goals and two assists, while Carlos Sanchis has notched a pair of goals this season, both coming this spring.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville trails Wake Forest 3-10-0 all-time, with all thirteen matches played in the last fourteen seasons. Louisville last visited Winston-Salem in 2018 where Elijah Amo's goal in the 98th minute secured the 2-1 overtime win and advanced the Cardinals to their second ACC Championship appearance in five seasons.
LAST MEETING
Pedro Fonseca's goal on a set piece from Haji Abdikadir was not enough as Louisville fell to top-ranked Wake Forest in the first match of the 2020 season. After being outshot 8-2 in the first half, the Cardinals responded with three shots in the second frame.
CARDINALS LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD
In the midst of the recent two-match winning streak, Louisville found the back of the net six times compared to the 10 total goals scored in the fall. The last time the program has scored six goals over a two-game stretch was back-to-back 3-0 victories over in-state rival Kentucky and Florida Atlantic in the opening weeks of the 2019 season. Louisville remains undefeated (3-0-1) this season when scoring two or more goals.
FONSECA PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF
Junior forward Pedro Fonseca entered the 2020 season with high expectations after a strong close to the 2019 season and earning a spot on the ACC Preseason Watch List.
After missing a large chunk of 2019 due to injury, Fonseca returned in time for the postseason and made an immediate impact. The Brazilian scored in two of Louisville's three NCAA Tournament matches and added an assist in the other.
He has picked up right where he left off last season, finding the back of the net for a team-high four goals, adding three assists to his total. Fonseca has recorded goals against No.1 Wake Forest, Notre Dame, and No.5 Virginia, in addition to opening the spring portion of the season with a three-point performance at NC State. He leads the team with 11 points in 11 matches this season.
