Louisville Drops 1-0 Overtime Heartbreaker to Auburn

The Cardinals lost on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in the second overtime.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime heartbreaker to Auburn on Saturday afternoon at Lynn Stadium.

The loss moves the Cardinals to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in the spring portion of the schedule, while Auburn improves to 7-5-3.

Louisville battled defensively throughout and held Auburn to three shots in the first half. Gabby Kouzelos registered one save, while Ravin Alexander recorded the Cardinals' only shot during the first stanza.

Both teams recorded four shots with two on goal in the second half, but neither could break the scoreless tie as they headed to overtime.

During the first overtime, Kouzelos recorded two saves and the game moved into the second overtime.

With just three minutes remaining in the second overtime, Auburn's Marissa Arias was fouled resulting in a penalty kick and Sarah Houchin converted to give the Tigers a 1-0 victory.Â
