Cardinal Women Complete First Night at NCAA Championship

Louisville earns HM All-American Status in first relay
GREENSBORO, Ind. – There was just one event tonight as the 800 Free Relay kicked off the first night of competition at the 2021 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC).

The Cardinals put up a 7:02.74 in the 800 freestyle from Alena Kraus (1:45.31), Paige Hetrick (1:44.90), Duda Sumida (1:45.60) and Diana Dunn (1:46.93) to place 15th. Louisville dropped just over two seconds from their qualifying time.

The Cavaliers of Virginia won the event, posting a 6:52.56, that included Paige Madden's blazing fast 1:41.63 second leg.

Tomorrow will feature prelims in the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, the 50-freestyle and 1M diving, beginning at 10 a.m. ET. Finals will commence at 6 p.m. and open with the 200 Free Relay and close with the 400 Medley Relay. Â
