Louisville falls 4-3
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 battle with No. 27-ranked Wake Forest Sunday afternoon in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"It was a grind. I sound like a bit of a broken record but it is just so tough. We don't really have any easy matches. We fought today and we were close and had some opportunities. We had three singles that we could of possibly won and turned some things around. We came out and didn't play as well as we could of in doubles and they took advantage of that. It is a heartbreaker, but it is life in the ACC," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham.  Â
Â
The Cardinals dropped the doubles point despite a 6-3 win at No. 3 by Dina Chaika and Chelsea Sawyer, who downed Anna Campana and Peyton Pesavento. UofL fell at the No. 1 and 2 spots to give the Deacons a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Sawyer evened the match score with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4. But teammate Tatiana Simova fell 6-1, 6-2 at the Cards' No. 6 slot. Rhea Verma tied the match back up when she rolled 6-4, 6-3 in an upset of No. 98-ranked Eliza Omirou. UofL's Raven Neely put up a battle before falling in three sets at No. 3. The Cards lost at No. 1 but Andrea Di Palma out-lasted Anna Campana at No. 2 with a 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 1-0 (10-4) win.
Â
The Cardinals hit the road to make an ACC swing through Florida, facing the Seminoles of Florida State on Friday. March 19 and Miami on Sunday, March 21.
