
No. 19 Cardinals Travel to Marquette on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 19 University of Louisville women's lacrosse continues their two-game road stretch in Milwaukee, Wis. to face Marquette on Sunday at noon.

Fresh off an 11-8 victory at Central Michigan on Friday, the Cardinals are 3-2 overall and 0-1 in ACC play. The Golden Eagles also enter Sunday's game 3-2 on the season.

Caroline Blalock led the Cardinals with four goals in the win over the Chippewas. Three of her goals came in the final eight minutes including the final two goals of the game. After five games, Caroline Blalock tops the Cardinals' lineup in goals (13), assists (6), points (19), and draw controls (14).

Earlier this week, she was named to the 2021 Tewaaraton Award watch list and is an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Honorable Mention.

Hannah Morris had one goal in the win at Central Michigan to extend her goal-scoring streak to a team-high 12 games. She ranks second on the team with 11 goals and 12 points.

Goalkeeper Rachel Florek has tallied 54 saves over the Cardinals' last five contests, ranking first in the ACC and fourth in the NCAA. Her .524 save percentage ranks third in the conference while her 10.8 saves per game also leads the league.

Marquette enters Sunday's matchup with a 3-2 record following three straight wins over Oregon, Kent State and Central Michigan. The Golden Eagles concluded the shortened 2020 campaign with a 6-4 record and advanced to the BIG EAST semifinals in 2019. Megan Menzuber leads the team in goals (18), assists (8) and points (26) through the first five games of the season and has tallied hat tricks in the last three contests. Lydia Foust, who was named Preseason All-BIG EAST, ranks second on the team with 12 goals and 17 points, while Erin Dowdle has recorded a team-high 12 ground balls. Emily Cooper paves the way with 30 draw controls and goalkeeper Sophia Leva has registered 30 saves for a .566 save percentage. Head coach Meredith Black, who was named the first lacrosse coach in Marquette history in 2011, enters her ninth year at the helm. In 2019, she led the Golden Eagles to the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, their highest in program history.
