Hall Leads No. 19 Louisville to 14-10 Win at Marquette
March 14, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
Ally Hall led the Cardinals with a career-high five goals in the win.
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Senior attacker Ally Hall led the way with a career-high five goals as No. 19 University of Louisville women's lacrosse overcame an early deficit and cruised to a 14-10 win at Marquette on Sunday afternoon.
Â
With the win, Louisville improves to 4-2 on the season, while Marquette falls to 3-3.
"We played well today. I thought for the most part we did what we needed to do and once again Rachel Florek was good in net," said head coach Scott Teeter. "Ally had a great game. She can be a mismatch for defenders and it was nice to see her get it going."
Â
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead just a minute in on a goal by Hannah Morris, but then went over 10 minutes without a score and saw Marquette take advantage with four straight goals to push the deficit to 4-1.
Â
Trailing by three 11 minutes into the first half, the Louisville defense held the Golden Eagles scoreless over the next 17 minutes and the offense rattled off six straight goals, two apiece by Izzy Holmes and Hall, to build the lead to 7-4.
Â
Rachel Florek had eight saves and a .615 save percentage in the first half as the Cardinals went into the locker room with a 7-5 lead.
Â
Morris' second goal gave Louisville an 8-5 lead early in the second half, but Marquette answered with two straight to pull within 8-7.
Â
Over the next 16 minutes, the Cardinals scored five of six goals, two of which came from Hall, to extend their lead to 13-8 with 6:35 left to go.
Â
The Golden Eagles pulled within four twice in the final five minutes, but couldn't get any closer as Louisville cruised to a 14-10 win.
Â
Hall finished with five goals on just eight shots, while Morris also recorded a hat trick with three goals. Holmes scored two goals in the win, her first two goals of the season.
Â
McNicholas had a team-high three assists to go with her one goal. Caroline Blalock chipped in four ground balls to go with her one goal and one assist.
Â
Louisville finished with 41 shots and had eight assists on 14 goals.
Â
Florek continues to shine in the net as she finished with 13 saves and a .565 save percentage.
Â
After struggling with the draw early, Louisville concluded the contest with a 14-12 advantage in the draw. Ashley Osborne finished with a team-high five draw controls.
Next up, Louisville hosts No. 1 North Carolina at Cardinal Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
