No. 19 Cardinals Suffer Setback Against No. 1 North Carolina
March 18, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
Ally Hall and Alex McNicholas scored two goals apiece in the 19-7 loss.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse resumed ACC play as they dropped a 19-7 decision against No. 1 North Carolina at Cardinal Stadium on Thursday night.
Â
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-3 and 0-2 in the ACC to start to the season, while the Tar Heels are now 8-0 and 4-0 in the ACC.
Â
"We played well in spurts and showed that we can hang with the No. 1 team in the nation, but we let them go on some runs which made the score a little lopsided," said head coach Scott Teeter. "There were a lot of positives, we had 27 shots, it just came down to execution."
Â
North Carolina got on the board first, but Caroline Blalock answered quickly to tie the game at 1-1 at the 27:07 mark. Louisville had four different players score in the first half as they trailed the Tar Heels 10-4 going into the break.
Â
Alex McNicholas scored the first goal of the second half, with Ally Hall scoring soon after to get UofL back within five at 11-6, but they would not get any closer as they fell 19-7.
Â
Louisville's seven goals are tied for the second most given up in a game this season by North Carolina.
Â
The Cardinals took 27 shots, 18 of which were on goal, and picked up seven ground balls and 10 draw controls. McNicholas and Hall led the team with two goals each as Caroline Blalock, Bella Karstien and Allegra Catalano added one each.
Â
Goalkeeper Rachel Florek finished with six saves.
Â
The Cardinals continue their home stand as Notre Dame comes to UofL Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday, March 21 at 12 p.m.
