March 12, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
Caroline Blalock led the way for the Cardinals with four goals, including three in the final eight minutes.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Caroline Blalock scored four goals, including three in the final eight minutes, to help University of Louisville lacrosse rally to an 11-8 win at Central Michigan on Friday afternoon.
Â
With the win, the No. 19 Cardinals improve to 3-2 on the year, while the Chippewas fall to 3-3 on the season.
"We are happy that we got the win today, but overall I didn't think it was our best performance," said head coach Scott Teeter. "You have to give Central Michigan a lot of credit, but luckily we were able to make enough plays down the stretch to get the win."
Â
Caroline Blalock got the Cardinals on the board just a little over three minutes in on a free position goal.
Â
Louisville then built a 3-1 lead after Alex McNicholas and Paige Richbourg delivered back-to-back goals about a minute apart, but the two teams went into the locker room at halftime knotted at 4-4.
Â
After the break, Louisville built its lead back to two at 6-4 following goals by Kokoro Nakazawa and Hannah Morris.
Â
But, the Chippewas battled back with three consecutive goals to take their first lead of the game at 7-6 with just under 12 minutes to go.
Â
Louisville then answered with two straight goals to regain the lead with 6:38 remaining, the first by Caroline Blalock and the second a free position goal by Bella Karstien.
Â
After Central Michigan tied it again, Ally Hall's second goal of the game gave the Cardinals a 9-8 lead with 4:20 to go. Caroline Blalock then extended the lead to 11-8 with two straight goals of her own in the final 2:11, giving her four on the day.
Â
Louisville then controlled possession in the final minute to seal the win.
