No. 2 Cardinals Make It Four Straight to Open Season
February 23, 2021 | Baseball
Henry Davis homered and drove in four in the victory.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The second-ranked University of Louisville baseball team earned its fourth straight victory with a 6-2 win over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Kaleb Corbett (1-0) picked up his first collegiate victory with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while Henry Davis turned in a perfect day at the plate with his second home run in as many games.
Louisville (4-0) jumped on the board first in the third inning. Ben Bianco singled and Lucas Dunn walked to start the inning before Luke Brown beat out a bunt to load the bases. Davis then delivered his first big swing of the day, lining a single to right-center to drive home the first two runs.
Levi Usher then worked a seven-pitch walk to force home Brown to stretch the margin to three.
In the fourth, Dunn went the opposite way for a one-out single and Davis added two more to the board with a long home run to left-centerfield, his second of the year.
The offense was more than enough for the Louisville pitching staff, which didn't allow an earned run in the victory.
Luke Seed drew the start on Tuesday, striking out six in two-plus innings. After Corbett's outing, Carter Lohman, Jack Perkins and Michael Kirian took care of the final five innings to seal the victory. It was the first outing for Perkins since May of 2019 after missing the 2020 season due to injury.
Louisville has four games remaining on its homestand to start the season. The Cardinals will host Western Illinois for three games beginning on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
