October 22, 2021 | Men's Soccer
Louisville finished the regular season 9-2-0 at Lynn Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team finished off the home portion of its regular season schedule with a 2-1 victory over NC State on Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals improved to 9-2-0 on their home pitch this fall, one win shy of their single-season record for wins at Lynn Stadium with potential postseason games at home on the horizon.
Louisville (10-5-0, 5-2-0 ACC) controlled possession in the opening minutes with three corner kicks and a pair of shots on target in the first seven minutes.
UofL continued its push at the net over the next 20 minutes before NC State finally recorded its first shot. The Wolfpack's first opportunity came in the 29th minute, but Detre Bell held strong and kept the match scoreless.
The Cards finally got on the board in the 37th minute after NC State failed to clear the ball outside of the box. The ball fell to the feet of Pedro Fonseca and the senior beat the keeper for his eighth goal of the season.
It remained a 1-0 match into the second half, but the Wolfpack equalized in the 68th minute.
The level score didn't last long though, as the Cardinals answered back four minutes later. Fonseca and Eric Danquah worked the ball into the box from the right side before finding Aboubacar Camara who was able to slot it home. The goal was the 13th on the year for Camara, adding to his ACC-leading total.
The Louisville defense made the one-goal advantage stand up from there, fending off NC State to secure the victory.
The Cardinals outshot NC State 14-5 on the night with a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
The victory keeps the Cardinals on top of the ACC Atlantic Division with 15 points. Louisville wraps up the regular season next Friday night at Clemson, who entered the night tied with UofL in the division. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on the ACC Network.
