
Cardinals Welcome in Niagara on Monday

The Cardinals and the Purple Eagles will begin play at 1 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a loss at No. 1 North Carolina, University of Louisville women's lacrosse (4-4) hosts Niagara (3-3) on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.

"We need to regroup to get back on track," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We need to get back to believing in ourselves. We really need to hold each other accountable and focus on playing for 60 minutes."

The Cardinals are 4-4 to open the season and have alternated wins and losses.

In the loss at No. 1 North Carolina on Thursday, Louisville fell behind 10-1 and 13-2 at the half, but battled back in the second half. They led the second half the majority of the way and scored three straight goals by Hannah Morris, Ally Hall and Caroline Blalock in a four-minute span to pull within 14-5 with 19:20 remaining.

Seven different Cards scored a goal at North Carolina. In their previous game, eleven different players scored for the Cardinals against Longwood, with Morris leading the way with four goals.
Morris leads the Cardinals with 17 goals. She has at least one goal in seven of eight games and has a six-game scoring streak, which leads the team. Prior to scoring just one goal at UNC, she had eight goals in a three-game stretch. Last year, she had six goals on the season with three of those goals coming in a hat trick vs. Syracuse on March 17, 2019.

The Cardinals are 2-1 when scoring first and 2-3 when the opponent scores first. In 2019, they were 3-2 when scoring first and 2-11 when their opponent scored first.

Louisville is 4-0 against unranked teams and 0-4 against ranked teams. Last season, they went 5-4 against unranked teams and 0-9 against ranked teams.

Niagara enters Monday's contest with a 3-3 record. They won their last game on Tuesday at Binghamton, 12-10. They rank first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a .523 save percentage and with a .432 shot percentage. They rank second in the league in turnover per game with 15.33.

The Purple Eagles feature two double digit scorers. Senior Shea Swartwout leads the team with 17 goals and 20 points. She ranks second in free position goals per game (1.17), goals (17) and shots on goal per game (5.67). She also ranks third with a .636 free position percentage, 2.83 goals per game and 20 points.

Sophomore Jenna Brill is second on the team with 11 goals and 14 points. Fellow sophomore Michelle Messenger has played goal in all six games for the Purple Eagles and has 57 goals and a .594 save percentage. She ranks first in the MAAC and second in the nation with a .594 save percentage. She also ranks second in the league in goals-against average with 9.74 and third in the league with 3.17 ground balls per game and 57 saves. Senior Lauren Paul was named preseason All-MAAC.
