Louisville's Second Half Surge Not Enough at No. 1 North Carolina

Seven different players scored and the Cardinals led the majority of the way in the second half.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse showed fight in the second half, but ultimately lost at No. 1 North Carolina 19-7 on Thursday night in Chapel Hill.

With the loss, Louisville moves to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while North Carolina remains unbeaten at 6-0 and 2-0 in league action.
"We played a little nervous in the first half and that showed," said head coach Scott Teeter. "But, we challenged them to respond in the second half and to regroup, and they did that."

North Carolina's Ally Mastroianni scored on the Tar Heels' first possession, but Louisville immediately responded, scoring on its first possession, as well. Alex McNicholas found a curling Shayla Scanlan at the net who scored to even the game at 1-1.
North Carolina then answered with nine straight goals to build its lead to 10-1 before Belle Dora ended the drought with 5:38 to go in the first half.

The Tar Heels then reeled off four more goals to go ahead 14-2 before Louisville gained some momentum. The Cardinals scored three straight goals by Hannah Morris, Ally Hall and Caroline Blalock in a four-minute span to pull within 14-5 with 19:20 remaining.

Alex McNicholas later scored to pull Louisville to 16-7 with 3:39 to go, but Louisville would not get any closer.
After trailing 13-2 at the half, Louisville led the second half the majority of the way.
Seven different Cardinals scored in the loss and Rachel Florek, who was under pressure all night, finished with seven saves.

Louisville returns to action on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they host Niagara.
