Louisville tallied a 13-3 victory on Wednesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second consecutive day, the second-ranked University of Louisville baseball team rolled past Chicago State, picking up a 13-3 victory Wednesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (13-4) has now won three in a row, scoring double-digit runs in all three contests.
The Cardinals got off to another strong start Wednesday, scoring six times in the first two innings. Luke Brown led off the first with a double, stole third and then scored on Zach Britton's groundball to the shortstop.
Brown was involved again in the second inning, driving home Cameron Masterman with the bases loaded. Lucas Dunn, who made his first start of the season, followed with a bases-clearing triple and later scored on Britton's RBI knock.
Britton added another RBI single in the fourth to extend the margin to 7-0 before Chicago State pushed a pair of runs across in the fifth.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Dalton Rushing crushed his first home run of the season to get the two runs right back. Rushing would later add a two-run single, as did Justin Lavey, to wrap up Louisville's offensive output for the day.
Brown, Britton and Rushing all had three hits on the day with Britton driving in three and Rushing bringing home four. Dunn also drove in three runs on the afternoon.
Tate Kuehner (2-1) allowed two runs over 4.2 innings for his second win of the season. Ryan Hawks surrendered just one run across 3.1 innings and Kerry Wright worked a scoreless ninth to seal the victory.
Louisville returns to conference play on Friday for the start of a three-game series with Notre Dame. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., ET, at Jim Patterson Stadium.
