TULSA, Okla. – Taylor Roby's solo home run in the eighth inning lifted the University of Louisville softball team to a 3-2 win over host Tulsa in the final game of the OSU/Tulsa Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Â
After the host Golden Hurricane scored a run to tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Roby led off the top of the eighth by sending an 0-2 count to the scoreboard in left centerfield to seal the game for the Cardinals.
Â
In addition to her game-winning hit, Roby, who had two hits in the contest, also picked up her fourth win in the circle after surrendering one earned run on three hits in 3.0 innings of relief. Carmyn Greenwood also went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to help pace the Cardinals at the plate.
Â
The Cardinals (7-12) took an early lead when redshirt junior Carmyn Greenwood lifted a two-out solo shot over the left field fence for her first home run of the season.
Â
Louisville added another run in the fourth. Freshman Jenna Servi reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. She crossed the plate safely when senior Celene Funke followed with a single to centerfield to extend the lead to 2-0.
Â
The Golden Hurricane (11-8) cut the lead in half behind Kylie Norwood's pinch-hit solo home run in the sixth. Tulsa added another run in the bottom of the seventh. Mikayla Whitten delivered a two-out hit and Makayla Jackson walked to put two runners on for Alexis Perry's RBI single which evened the score at 2-2.
Â
Roby's team-best sixth home run of the season put the Cardinals ahead for good in the top of the eighth. Â
Â
Chenise Delce (5-3) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on four hits and striking out two in 6.2 innings of relief.
Â
After spending the first four weekends of the season on the road, Louisville will open play at Ulmer Stadium March 6-8 when the Cardinals play host to Evansville, Illinois, Northwestern and Oakland for the Red & Black Challenge.
