Louisville Baseball Second in NCBWA Preseason Rankings
February 03, 2020 | Baseball
The Cardinals are ranked first or second in all six major preseason polls.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball program rounded out the preseason polls with a No. 2 ranking from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The NCBWA poll is the last of the six major preseason rankings to come out for the 2020 season, with the Cardinals ranking first or second in all six.
Vanderbilt holds the top spot in the NCBWA rankings, one spot ahead of Louisville. Texas Tech, Georgia and Miami round out the top five. Eight ACC schools were ranked among the top 25, one behind the SEC for the most by a conference.
The Cardinals have 19 games on their 2020 schedule against teams ranked in the NCBWA poll, including a trip to No. 25 Ole Miss on the opening weekend.
Louisville is coming off a 51-18 record during the 2019 campaign that saw it win the ACC Atlantic Division for the fourth time in five years and reach the bracket final at the College World Series, the deepest postseason run in program history.
Head coach Dan McDonnell is set to begin his 14th season at the helm of the Louisville program and returns 24 players from last year's team that finished the year ranked third nationally.
Louisville opens the 2020 season Feb. 14 with a three-game series on the road at Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. The Cardinals' home opener is set for Feb. 19 against Wright State at Jim Patterson Stadium.
