February 28, 2020 | Softball
STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Louisville softball team fell 3-0 to host No. 15/14 Oklahoma State Friday evening to wrap up the first day of the OSU/Tulsa Invitational. The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday when they take on No. 10/10 Oregon at 1 p.m. (ET) and face the Cowgirls again at 3:30 p.m.
Â
Junior Chardonnay Harris scattered five hits in seven inning and struck out three, but a three-run third inning by Oklahoma State proved to be the only scoring in the game. Seniors Celene Funke and Caitlin Ferguson each had a hit for the Cardinals.
Â
The teams played through two scoreless innings before the Cowgirls (10-5) plated three runs in the bottom of the third. Kiley Naomi drew a two-out walk, stole second and moved to third on an error. Sydney Pennington broke up Chardonnay Harris' no-hitter with an RBI single to put Oklahoma State on the scoreboard. Alysen Febrey followed with a two-run homer to increase the lead to 3-0.
Â
Louisville (5-11) had an early scoring opportunity when junior Maddy Newman drew a one-out walk in the first inning and moved into scoring position on a groundout by redshirt sophomore Taylor Roby, but the Cards could not push a run across. UofL had another to score in the second inning as sophomore Charley Butler reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Redshirt freshman Eden Mayo was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, but a groundout ended the threat. Louisville would go on to strand four runners in the game. Â
Â
Carrie Eberle (6-1) picked up the win for the Cowgirls after surrendering two hits and striking out three in a complete game effort. Pennington led Oklahoma State offensively with two hits, a run and an RBI.
