
Louisville Plays Vanderbilt in Nashville on Tuesday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse (2-2) plays at Vanderbilt (3-1) on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.

The Cardinals are 2-2 to open the season after their comeback attempt fell short at No. 14 Michigan.

Rachel Florek continued her strong start to the season by recording a program-record 17 saves and finishing with a .531 save percentage at Michigan. The previous record for saves in a game was 16 by Brittany Read vs. Notre Dame on March 4, 2017 and Danielle Pawliw vs. Old Dominion on April 2, 2010.

Through four games, Florek has 48 saves and a .505 save percentage. Her 12.0 saves per game lead the ACC.

Brenna Shanahan ranks second in the ACC with 2.25 caused turnovers per game and Megan Mangines ranks eighth with 4.0 draw controls per game. UofL is second in the league with 15.0 caused turnovers per game.

UofL is 2-0 against unranked teams and 0-2 against ranked teams. Last season, they went 5-4 against unranked teams and 0-9 against ranked teams.

Vanderbilt enters Tuesday's game with a 3-1 record and winners of its last two games. On Friday, they won an overtime thriller against Lehigh, 13-12. The Commodores' lone loss was a 15-12 defeat at No. 5 Boston College.

Gabby Fornia leads Vanderbilt with 16 points and eight assists. Brianne Gross and Emily Mathewson lead the Dores with 10 goals each. Mathewson also leads the team with 15 draw controls, while Gross has 14. Paige Gunning has started all four games at goalie and has 25 saves and a .342 save percentage.

Fornia and Mathewson were tabbed unanimous All-American Athletic Conference selections, while the Commodores were picked to finish third in the league.

The Last Meeting (Feb. 27, 2019) - Louisville rallied from an 8-3 deficit to force overtime, but fell to Vanderbilt 9-8. After the Commodores scored the first goal of the second half to extend their lead to 8-3, the Cardinals controlled the remainder of the half to get back into the game. Ally Hall scored two goals in less than two minutes, followed by goals by Tessa Chad and Kayla Marshall, to pull Louisville within one goal at 8-7 with 15 minutes to go. The score remained at 8-7 until Scanlan scored her third goal of the game to tie it at 8-8 and force overtime with 29 seconds to go. In overtime, both teams failed to score on their opening possession, but Vandy ended it with a goal by Emily Mathewson with four seconds left.
