Three Hat Tricks Lead Louisville Past Marquette, 16-6
February 17, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse
Allegra Catalano, Ally Hall and Hannah Morris had tricks in the win.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ally Hall and Hannah Morris had four goals apiece and Allegra Catalano recorded a hat trick to lead University of Louisville lacrosse past Marquette, 16-6, on Monday afternoon.
Â
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-1 on the season as the Golden Eagles drop to 1-2.
Â
"I thought we came to play lacrosse today," said head coach Scott Teeter. "Our start was phenomenal, and we built that lead and got to start all four lines. We made plays defensively, and we made the best of our plays offensively."
Â
Caroline Blalock opened the scoring early in the first half and the Cardinals didn't take their foot off the gas pedal. From there, Louisville went on an 8-0 run, which included a pair of goals from Morris and Hall.
Â
Morris completed the hat trick with 10:34 left on the clock in the first half and Rachel Florek held the Golden Eagles without a goal for the opening 27 minutes. Louisville outshot Marquette 21-10 in the first half as the Cardinals had a 9-2 advantage heading into the break.
Â
Marquette scored back-to-back goals quickly to open the second half, but the Cardinals responded with three of their own. Hall and Morris each had free position goals less than a minute apart for their fourth goals of the day as Louisville posted a 16-6 win.
Â
Hall and Morris had a team-high four points and a total of seven Cardinals got on the board. Louisville outshot the Golden Eagles 33-23 and had 24 ground balls compared to Marquette's 19.
Megan Mangines led Louisville with four draw controls, while Florek concluded the game with nine saves.
Â
The Cardinals travel to Ann Arbor on Friday, Feb. 21 to take on No. 9 Michigan at 5 p.m.
