Cardinals Complete Day 3 of Competition

Williams and Curley win the mile; Sameh sprints to first
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville swim team completed the final day of a three day competition at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Set to mimic a championship meet such as the ACC Championships, the Cardinals raced each other in a prelims and finals format.

In the 1650 freestyle, Liberty Williams posted a time of 16.16.31, beating out Maddie Luther (16:38.00) and Paige McCormick (16.57.06). In the men's event, Hayden Curley won the grueling race with a 14:54.18, ahead of Ilia Sibirtsev (15:00.91) and T.C. Smith (15.13.24).

In the 200 backstroke, Ashlyn Schoof won the women's race in 1:56.79 and Nikos Sofianidis won the men's race in 1:44.04.

In the 100 freestyle, Christiana Regenauer took first with a 48.91 and Katie Schorrr was second in 50.27. For the men, Haridi Sameh was first in 42.57, out-touching Michael Eastman's 43.09.

In the 200 breast, Kaylee Wheeler edged Morgan Friesen by a one-hundreth of a second with a 2:11.00. For the men, Evgenii Somov smoked the field with a 1:52.22.

Gabi Albiero took top honors in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.59, just edging fellow frosh Tristen Ulett. Nicolas Albiero won the 200 fly with a time of 1:41.84.

In the final event of the competition, Gabi Albiero (48.98), Tristen Ulett (49.06), Kaylee Wheeler (49.88), and Maria Sumida (49.06) combined for the winning time of 3:16.98 in the 400 free relay. For the men, the A-relay team of Michael Eastman (42.92), Evgenii Somov (42.51), Nicolas Albiero (42.37 and Haridi Sameh (41.75) stopped the clock at 2:49.55.
