Cardinals Wrap Up Successful US Open Championships

Three Cardinal Forevers win events on the final day of competition.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Louisville men's and women's swim team concluded the last day of competition at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships, which took place on Nov. 12-14 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

It was a one-two punch for former UofL standouts in the women's 100m freestyle, with Mallory Comerford winning the event in 55.21 as Casey Fanz raced to second in 56.18. Christiana Regenauer (56.76) and Gabi Albiero (56.85) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Cardinals also claimed the top two spots in the men's 100m freestyle. Following his win in the 50m freestyle yesterday, Andrej Barna again finished first in 48.75 while Michael Eastman had the second fastest time in 50.14.

Morgan Friesen got her hands to the wall in 2:34.44 in the women's 200m breaststroke, fast enough for sixth overall. Alena Kraus flew to the runner-up spot in the women's 200m butterfly with a time of 2:14.17 as Tristen Ulett (2:14.99) finished fourth and Albiero (2:16.39) took sixth.

In the men's 200m butterfly, Zach Harting won with a time of 1:57.82 and Nicolas Albiero grabbed third in 2:00.98 to conclude the meet.

The 2020 Toyota U.S. Open was split across nine different sites to ensure swimmers and coaches could participate safely with all local, state and federal health guidelines strictly adhered to at each location. Results from each of the nine meets will be combined by USA Swimming and published in a comprehensive results report.
