
Cardinals Unveil 2019-20 Schedule

Long Course Swimming on the menu in this Olympic year.
The 2019-20 University of Louisville swimming and diving schedule is highlighted by four fan-favorite rivals Tennessee, Notre Dame, Kentucky and Indiana which are all slated as home meets in the Ralph Wright Natatorium this season with the Cardinals putting an increased emphasis on long course swimming as well.

"It is the Olympic year, so we are making a priority to add long course competition including the US Open," said Arthur Albiero, UofL head coach. "Historically, we like to put our focus on postseason competition and our focus is to continue to get better as the season progresses This schedule will provide us with good challenges throughout the year."

The season opens Oct. 4 when Xavier visits the Ville at 3 p.m. The women will head to the SMU Classic on Oct. 11-12 before both squads take on regional rival Tennessee at the Ralph Wright Natatorium on Oct. 24.

ACC foe Notre Dame will visit Louisville on Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. for what should shape up as a competitive meet with the long-time rival that has spanned two conferences over the years.

The Cardinals will head to Bloomington for a three-way meet with Texas and Indiana that will feature long course meter (LCM) racing on Friday, Nov. 8 and then short course yards (SCY) racing the next day.

Louisville swimmers will head to the Purdue Invitational on Nov. 21-23 in West Lafayette and the meet is structured with prelims and finals each of the three days.Â

The Cardinal Divers will participate in the ACC Diving Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. (the site of the ACC Championships) Nov. 21-23 with prelims in the morning and finals each evening.

The final meet of the calendar year will be the Toyota US Open Long Course Meet held in Atlanta, Ga. Dec. 4-7 with prelims and finals each day.

The Cardinals will begin 2020 on the road at Northwestern University on Jan. 9 before hosting in-state rival Kentucky at home on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.

Regional power Indiana will invade the natatorium on Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. The final home meet will be the Louisville Invitational a two-day meet designed to provide qualifying times for area schools.

UofL women will head to the ACC Championships on March 19-22 in Greensboro. UofL finished third last year after a stellar final day of racing. Louisville women won three gold and two bronzes and finished third in the 2019 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships in the final night of competition at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.  Cardinal senior Mallory Comerford won her second Most Valuable Swimmer Award to cap off a stellar ACC career.NC State won the meet with 1,335 points edging Virginia's 1,282. Louisville followed with 1,146, ahead of Notre Dame (909.5), Duke I764), Florida State (727), North Carolina (700.5), Virginia Tech (477.5), Georgia Tech (360), Pitt (334), Miami (293.5) and Boston College (154).

The men will head to their ACC Championships on Feb. 26-29 in Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Cardinals finished the 2019 ACC Men's Championship on a thrilling note, posting the fastest time in the nation in their 400 Free Relay gold medal on the last night. With three silver and two golds on the final night, UofL fought off a hard-charging Virginia team to claim the runners-up slot with 1135.5 points. NC State took top honors with 1,396. The Cavaliers took third with 1108 ahead of Virginia Tech (820.5), Florida State (819), Notre Dame (687), Duke (624), Georgia Tech (550), Pitt (508), North Carolina (388.5), Miami (161) and Boston College (159).

After a championship qualifying meet, the women will head to the NCAA Championships March 18-21 in Athens, Ga. Similarly, the men will head to their NCAA Championships the next week March 25-28 in Indianapolis.

The final scheduled meet will be the TYR Pro Series in Mission Viejo, Calif. On April 9-11.
