Cardinals Take Down Morehead State 3-0 in Home Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team defeated Morehead State 3-0 in the home opener on Sunday night in Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals held Morehead State without a shot to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Cardinals held possession the majority of the first half. In the 23rd minute, Arianna Ferraro took a throw in and dribbled down the right side of the goal then served the ball to the top of the box where Maisie Whitsett found the back left of the goal to put the Cards up 1-0.
The Cardinal offense continued to press the Eagles' defense creating three more chances but were unable to finish, ending the first half with a 1-0 lead. Louisville finished the half with a 9-0 shot advantage and an 8-0 corner kick advantage.
Louisville continued to press offensively in the second half, finding an early goal in transition. In the 53rd minute, Emina Ekic threaded through ball to Delaney Snyder who sent the ball from the far right post into the back left of the net for a 2-0 Louisville lead.
The Cardinals continued to press and scored again 10 minutes later. Allison Whitfield served the ball inside the box where Sarah Hernandez headed the ball in for a 3-0 Louisville lead.
Louisville finished the match with 70-30 advantage in possession. They also held a 17-0 shot advantage, including six shots on goal along with a 14-0 corner kick advantage.
Morehead State's Grace Gaffney finished with three saves. Gabby Kouzelos and Lana Batson were never tested.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 29 as they host Saint Louis in Lynn Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
