
Comerford Advances to Finals of 100M Freestyle at World Championships

Grigory Tarasevich raced to semi-finals of 200M Backsstroke
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville swimmers Mallory Comerford and Grigory Tarasevich both raced in semi-final heats at the FINA World Championships in Gwangzu, Korea.

In the 200M backstroke, Grigory Tarasevich of UofL's Speed Engineering School by way of Russia, touched sixth in the first semifinal with a time of 1:57.72 to finish 12th overall.

In the women's 100M freestyle, Mallory Comerford was fourth in the first semifinal in a time of 53.10 which will rank her fifth going into the finals.

For the rest of the field in the 100-meter free, World record holder Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden is the top seed going into the finals after posting a time of 52.43. She edged Cate Campbell of Australia's time of 52.71. Fellow Australian Emma McKeon put up a 52.77 to win the second heat. Mallory Comerford touched fourth in the first heat just behind Canadian Taylor Ruck's 53.04. Another American, Simone Manuel,  tied for the seventh fastest time of 53.31 with Freya Anderson of Great Britain. Femke Heemskerk of the Netherlands made the final after boarding a 53.16.
