Louisville Baseball Places Nine on All-ACC Baseball Academic Team
July 02, 2019 | Baseball, Academic Services
The Cardinals were tied atop the ACC with nine players selected.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team had nine players named to the 2019 All-ACC Baseball Academic Team announced by the conference on Tuesday.
The nine players marked the fourth straight season with at least seven players on the All-ACC Academic Team and were tied with Duke for the most of any school in the ACC.
Senior Bryan Hoeing, juniors Nick Bennett, Justin Lavey, Michael McAvene, Danny Oriente and Jake Snider, sophomores Reid Detmers and Lucas Dunn, and freshman Alex Binelas represented Louisville on the annual team.
Bennett has been on the All-ACC Academic Team in each of his three seasons with the Cardinals, while Hoeing, Oriente and Snider are on the team for the second time.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season were also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The nine selections continues a stretch of academic success that saw the Cardinals extend their streak of consecutive semesters with a 3.0 grade point average to 16 straight after posting a 3.31 during the spring semester. Thirty-three student-athletes amassed a 3.0 GPA or better during the spring, with 16 members on the Dean's List.
The span of 16 straight semesters with a 3.0 or better team GPA coincides with unparalleled success on the field for UofL. During those eight seasons, the Cardinals have four College World Series appearances, six NCAA Super Regional berths, eight NCAA Regional bids and seven conference championships.
On the field in 2019, the Louisville baseball team finished with a 51-18 overall record and reached the fifth College World Series in program history. The Cardinals were one of the last four teams standing in Omaha, the program's best finish, and notched the sixth 50-win season under head coach Dan McDonnell.
