Cardinals Land 21 on All-ACC Academic Team

Mallory Comerford was named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Twenty-one members of the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Team, led by Mallory Comerford, who was named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season.
In addition to winning her third straight NCAA title in the 200 free, as well as her first career NCAA crown in the 100 free, Comerford also excelled in the classroom for the Cards. The marketing major from Kalamazoo, Mich. boasts a 3.796 career GPA and achieved a GPA of 3.861 in the Fall 2018 semester. Additionally, she is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-America selection, Dean's Scholar, a Chi Alpha Sigma Member, a Red & Black Scholar Athlete, and a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
The honor marks Comerford's third major ACC award of the season as she also became the first woman in conference history to earn ACC Swimmer of the Year honors for three consecutive seasons and was selected as the ACC Championships Most Valuable Swimmer for the second straight season after winning the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle titles.
Comerford concludes her career as a Cardinal as a 10-time individual All-American, 16-time relay All-American, four-time NCAA champion, nine-time individual ACC champion, three-time ACC record holder, and holds nine program records for the University of Louisville. She was also selected as a finalist for the prestigious Honda Sport Award for Swimming and Diving.
The Louisville women landed 12 swimmers and divers on the All-ACC Academic Team, the highest tally in the entire conference. With a GPA of 3.71 in the Fall semester, the Cardinals recorded the second-highest mark in the nation.
On the men's side, nine Cardinals were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, the second-highest amount in the conference behind NC State with 12.
About the ACC-Scholar Athlete of the Year/All-ACC Academic Awards
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
