Cardinals Battle Through Pair of Matches at Liz Murphey Collegiate

Louisville lost 3-2 to No. 6 Arkansas before finishing all square with No. 11 Florida.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Squaring off against a pair of highly-ranked SEC opponents, the Louisville women's golf team was defeated 3-2 by No. 6 Arkansas and finished all square with No. 11 Florida at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The tournament is being played at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens.
The Cardinals will wrap up the tournament on Saturday with a match against Kennesaw State, after losing the tiebreaker to Florida on margin of victory.
Mairead Martin and Lauren Hartlage scored victories for the Cardinals in the opening match with Arkansas. Martin jumped out to a 4-up advantage through eight holes to take a commanding lead. Her lead dropped to two with eight holes to play, but she rebounded for a 3-and-2 victory. Hartlage lost the opening hole of the day, but stormed in front with wins on four consecutive holes and never looked back. The junior was 3-up with four to play when the match was stopped.
In the other three matches, Margot Bechadergue lost 3-and-2, Olivia Cason took a 6-and-4 defeat and Delaney Shah was bested 5-and-4.
In the afternoon match against Florida, Bechadergue opened up a 5-up advantage just six holes into the match on her way to a 2-and-1 victory. Cason fell behind on the first hole, but didn't lose a hole over the final 13 for a 4-and-3 win.
Martin and Hartlage took losses in the afternoon 3-and-2 and 6-and-5, respectively. The match came down to the final pairing with Shah 1-down heading to the final hole. Shah turned in a birdie on No. 9 to win the hole, halve the individual match and halve the team match.
Louisville will hit the course on Saturday morning starting at 8:02 a.m., ET.
