Cardinals Down Two Records, Qualify Three to Finals on Day Two of NCAAs

The Cards' 400 medley relay qualified second into the A final.
AUSTIN, Texas – Two school records fell and the University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team qualified three events to finals in the first preliminary session at the NCAA Championships on Thursday morning at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
The Cards' 400 medley relay team of Nicolas Albiero (45.40), Evgenii Somov (51.61), Zach Harting (44.28) and Andrej Barna (41.72) shattered the previous record by over a half-second with a time of 3:03.01. The quartet qualified as the No. 2 seed in tonight's finals, marking the fourth straight season Louisville has competed in the A final of the event.
Individually, Barna earned a spot in B final of the 50 free for the second consecutive year, sprinting to a time of 19.16 to qualify 14th heading into tonight's finals session.
The Cardinals also qualified their 200 free relay into the B final as Mihalis Deliyiannis (19.87), Barna (18.73), Bartosz Piszczorowicz (19.65) and Albiero (19.09) combined for a time of 1:17.34 to finish 11th overall.
In the 200 IM, sophomore Daniel Sos took down his own school record, placing 21st with a time of 1:43.39.
Rounding out the Cards' individual races was Marcelo Acosta, who placed 23rd in the 500 free with a time of 4:15.73.
The Cards will be back in action at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming for tonight's finals at 7 p.m. ET.
