
Louisville Plays at Marquette on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse wraps up its opening weekend at Marquette on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.

The Cardinals (0-1) fell to seventh-ranked Northwestern 21-11 in their season opener on Friday evening. Senior attacker Tessa Chad was Louisville's leading scorer with three goals, marking her ninth hat trick as a Cardinal.

Kayla Marshall had two goals and an assist to match Chad for a team-high three points.

In goal, Rachel Florek recorded five saves, while Lexie Ball added three. Â

Louisville is led by head coach Scott Teeter, who is in his second season at the helm of the program. He joined the Cardinals for the 2018 season after leading Canisius to six conference titles and six trips to the NCAA Tournament in seven years.

Marquette (0-1) enters Sunday's matchup following a 19-4 loss to Notre Dame in its season opener. The Golden Eagles were led by Charlotte McGuire with two goals, while Megan Menzuber and Shea Garcia each added a goal apiece.

The Golden Eagles registered a collective 12 saves, led by junior goalkeeper Jules Horning with eight.

Last season, Marquette finished with an overall record of 10-8, marking the most wins in program history. To cap off a record-setting year, the Golden Eagles clinched a spot in their first-ever BIG EAST Championships, but ended the season with a 19-8 loss to Florida in the semifinals.

Marquette returns eight starters from a season ago, including Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Grace Gabriel.
