Louisville Falls Short at Marquette, 15-12
February 10, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
Tessa Chad and Ally Hall scored three goals each for the Cardinals.
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – University of Louisville lacrosse fell at Marquette 15-12 on Sunday afternoon, despite a pair of hat tricks from Tessa Chad and Ally Hall.
Â
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 0-2 on the season and snap a five-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles.
Â
"A great learning lesson for a young team today," said UofL head coach Scott Teeter. "You can't spot a team a five-goal lead in the first ten minutes of the game. We need to compete at the beginning of the game. I am proud of how we responded and tied it late in the first half. Then we got into card trouble."
Â
Marquette got on the board first, but Chad responded less than a minute later to even the score at 1-1.
Â
The Golden Eagles went on to score five unanswered goals over the next seven minutes.
The Cardinals countered with a 6-1 run of their own, capped by back-to-back goals by Shayla Scanlan to even the score at 7-7.
Â
With just under two minutes left in the half, Marquette's Grace Gabriel found the back of the net on a pair of free position goals to give the Golden Eagles a 9-7 lead heading into the break.
Â
Coming out of the break, Caroline Blalock pulled the Cardinals within one on a free position goal. However, Marquette went on another scoring run to extend their lead to 12-8.
Â
The Cardinals fired off the next three goals to find themselves down by just one with 12 minutes left in regulation. Louisville's comeback attempt would not be enough as Marquette finished the game on a 3-1 run to seal the 15-12 victory.
Â
Hall led the way with three goals and an assist for four points. Chad matched Hall with three goals of her own.
Â
In addition to her goal, Caroline Blalock recorded a team-high four ground balls and an assist. Alex McNicholas paced the Cardinals with four draw controls, while also netting a goal and picking up two ground balls.

Â
