Cardinals move to 7-0

The University of Louisville women's tennis team held on for a 4-3 win at Furman Sunday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The score was tied at three, leaving Diana Wong at No. 6 in charge of the Cardinals' fate. She answered the bell, beating Georgie Walker 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, to push the Cardinals past Furman, 4-3.

The Cardinals dropped the doubles point to open the match. Furman's No. 1 pair of Katarina Kozarov and freshman Julia Adams rolled past Raven Neely and Sena Suswam, 6-1. Louisville was up 5-2 at No. 2 before Furman's Katty Weymouth and freshman Madison Dillon reeled off five-straight games to down Nikolina Jovic and Chloe Hamlin with a score of 7-5. At the No, 3 spot, the Paladin pair of Carol Elizabeth Kerman and Taylor Melville beat Wong and Aleksandra Mally, 6-2.

The Cardinals recovered and won the first three singles points, as Neely came from behind for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Weymouth at No. 2. At No. 3, Sena Suswam defeated Melville, 6-2, 6-3 and Jovic topped Adams, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 to boost the Cardinals to a 3-1 lead.

Furman won the the next two contests to tie the match at 3-all and set up the decisive flight six match. No. 30-ranked Kozarov escaped a resilient Mally, 6-3, 7-6(4) at No. 1. Dillon beat Hamlin, 7-6(13), 6-1, at No. 5, before Wong's heroics sealed the match for the 7-0 Cardinals.

The Cardinals head to Marshall on Feb. 8 as the dual season continues.
