Cardinals Set to Host Georgia Tech and Clemson

Louisville continues ACC play in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena
 The University of Louisville volleyball team continues ACC play with two more home matches this weekend when it takes on Georgia Tech on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and Clemson on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Louisville
The University of Louisville volleyball team is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. Â
UofL opened its ACC slate with a pair of wins. The Cards downed NC State 3-2 and UNC 3-1. Â Melanie McHenry had 29 kills and setter Tori Dilfer tied her career-best with 54 assists to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over North Carolina State in the ACC opener at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. UofL won 28-30, 25-12, 25-27, 25-19, 15-10. Alexis Hamilton had 23 digs, Aiko Jones added three service aces and 15 kills with Anna Stevenson chipping in seven blocks. UofL hit .254 with 67 digs. North Carolina State hit .150 with 10 blocks and 75 digs. The Wolfpack's Melissa Evans had 20 kills.
Led by a team effort, Â the University of Louisville earned a hard-fought 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22) victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels in Sunday afternoon ACC volleyball action inside L&N Credit Union Arena. Melanie McHenry had 18 kills with Aiko Jones and Emily Scott adding 12 kills to lead the Cardinal offense.Â
With the win, UofL improves to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in ACC play. Junior Libero Alexis Hamilton led the team defensively, racking up 23 digs and Emily Scott had seven blocks with Anna Stevenson pitching in six blocks. UofL hit .147 with four aces and 13 blocks.

Georgia Tech
The Georgia Tech volleyball team is off to an 8-5 start on their 2019 campaign. Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets picked up wins over Arkansas and Syracuse. In the game against Syracuse, sophomore setter Matti McKissock lead the team with 38 assists. She is currently leading the ACC in assists per set with 11.25 and total assists with 540 on the season. Freshman outside hitter Julia Bergmann is currently third in the ACC conference with 182 kills. Head coach Michelle Collier is in her sixth year as the head coach of Georgia Tech. Last season, she led the Yellow Jackets to a postseason berth for the first time since 2009 with an appearance in the NIVA. They managed to win their first round game against USF, which was their first postseason win since 2004. The last time these teams faced off was on November 23, 2018 where the Cardinals won 3-0. The Yellow Jackets are looking for their first win against the Cardinals since 2016.
Clemson
The Clemson Tigers volleyball team is off to a 6-7 start to their 2019 campaign. Last week, the Tigers picked up a win over Oral Roberts while losing matchups against Boston College and Syracuse. In the win over Oral Roberts, junior outside hitter Jori Radtke led the team with 17 kills. Freshman setter Mckenna Slavik picked up 43 assists during the match. She currently is 4th in the ACC conference in assists with 478 on the season. Head coach Michaela Franklin is in her third season as the head coach of the Tigers. Last season she helped lead the team to its most wins in a season since 2012 with 19. Clemson played in the NIVC tournament, and won back to back postseason games for the first time in school history last season. The last meeting between these teams was on September 30, 2018 where the Cardinals won 3-2. Louisville has never lost against Clemson in the series history.Â
McHenry Named ACC Player of the Week
Louisville senior outside hitter Melanie McHenry has been tabbed as the ACC Volleyball Player of the Week, McHenry led the Cardinals in wins over North Carolina and NC State, recording a double-double in both matches. The senior from Speedway, Indiana, posted 29 kills and 13 digs in a 3-2 win over NC State on Friday. McHenry followed that performance with an 18-kill, 16-dig effort against North Carolina on Sunday. She added six blocks and four aces to go along with her 47 kills and 29 digs for the weekend.McHenry now ranks No. 10 in all-time kills for the Cardinals with 1,291. She is ranked No. 24 in the nation for active players' career kills. She tied a career-high with 30 kills against Cincinnati.

For the second straight season, UofL has a player amassing 1,000 career kills. Â Junior Melanie McHenry, who has been a starter for the last three seasons enters the week with 1,307. Tess Clark was the last player to join the club in 2017.

The Cards are 7-1 in in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena this year. They were 10-3 in 2018 overall and 7-2 in ACC play at home. (6-2 in Cardinal Arena and 1-0 at Sacred Heart Academy where the Notre Dame match was relocated after a power outage affected the Arena.)
Five Set Matches
The Cards are 3-0 in five setters this year with the 3-2 comeback win over Texas A&M, Cincinnati and NC State. In 2018, the Cards were 4-3 in five set matches.
