Cardinals Travel to Hoosier Classic

UofL sends four to compete in Bloomington
The University of Louisville women's tennis team is gearing up for their second fall invitational this weekend. The Cardinals are traveling to Bloomington, Indiana to compete in the Hoosier Classic, hosted by Indiana University. The event last three days, starting Friday, Sept. 28 and ending on Sunday, Sept. 30.

The eight-team field includes Louisville, Indiana, Marquette, Western Michigan, Ohio State, Kansas State, Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee State. The Cardinals will have four participants in junior Raven Neely, sophomores Maya Smith and Nikolina Jovic and freshman Dina Chaika. Â

The Cards are familiar with Middle Tennessee State as UofL downed the Blue Raiders 4-3 last season. MTSU finished the season going 19-8 and were the Conference USA runnerups.

Host Indiana is coming off a 17-13 season in which they fell in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament. The Hoosier's top doubles pair of senior Madison Appel and sophomore Michelle McKamey return after going 11-5 in the dual season.

Fellow Big Ten conference member Ohio State is bouncing back from an NCAA tournament appearance, where they fell to Clemson in the first round. Redshirt sophomore Shiori Fukuda earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year last season.

Cincinnati, Kansas State and Marquette fell short in their respective conference tournaments. K-State's Maria Linares won 20 singles matches last season and earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year. Cincy's senior Antonella Bramato has 51 career singles wins and 54 career doubles wins.

In Louisville's first fall invitational, the Cardinals walked away with a pair of titles from the Akron Shootout. The team of Jovic and senior Sena Suswan claimed the doubles title while Jovic won a share of the singles title with Akron's Sophia Green.
