Cardinals Capture Titles at Akron Shootout

Nikolina Jovic and Sena Suswam won doubles, while Jovic also took a share of the singles title.
AKRON, Ohio –Nikolina Jovic and Sena Suswam won the doubles title outright, while Jovic secured a share of the singles title to lead the University of Louisville women's tennis team on the final day of action at the Akron Shootout.
The Cardinals swept Youngstown State 6-0 in singles action. Jovic downed Imaan Hassim 6-3, 6-1 to capture a share of the singles crown alongside Akron's Sophia Geier.
In other singles action, Aleksandra Mally registered a win over Anastasia Khokhlova 6-4, 6-0 at the two-spot. Despite falling 5-7 in the first set, Maya Smith battled back to take a 7-6 (4), 1-0 (9) victory over Tamara Teufl at No. 3.
Suswam, Diana Wong and Dina Chaika downed each of their opponents in straight sets. Suswam earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Khokhlova, Wong upended Lucia Zagar 6-2, 6-1 and Chaika toppled Alexis Steer 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, the Cardinals took down Cleveland State 2-1. At No. 1, Jovic and Suswam defeated Isabella Spindler and Kate Avram 6-2 to remain undefeated on the weekend. The No. 2 duo of Mally and Wong also came away with a win, triumphing over Sian Payne and Gaby Schoenberg by a mark of 6-3.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Bloomington, Ind. on Friday for the three-day Indiana Invitational.
