Cardinals and Hilltoppers set for Sept. 15; Louisville and IU will play Sept. 29
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Highlighted by scrimmages at Jim Patterson Stadium against Western Kentucky and Indiana, the University of Louisville baseball team's fall schedule was released Thursday. Both fall scrimmages for the Cardinals will coincide with home football weekends.
"We're excited to host both WKU and Indiana in fall scrimmages. It'll be a great chance for our players to gain very beneficial game reps against quality competition," said Cardinals head coach Dan McDonnell. "We also wanted to make sure we played both scrimmages on weekends where we were hosting home football games in order to give our fans the opportunity to support both programs while creating an electric atmosphere along Central Avenue."
The two-game fall scrimmage schedule will begin with a visit from Western Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m., ET. The baseball game will begin an entertaining day of competition against the in-state foes, as the UofL football team will host the Hilltoppers later that evening (7:30 p.m.) at Cardinal Stadium.
The Cardinals will conclude their fall exhibition slate against Indiana on Sept. 29. The start time for the baseball scrimmage against the Hoosiers will be announced after the kickoff time is set for the Louisville football team's home game against Florida State that same day.
Louisville is slated to open fall workouts with intrasquad scrimmages on Sept. 7-8 at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals plan to host intraquad scrimmages each weekend in September and into October before closing the fall with the annual Pizza Bowl series in mid-October. The specific dates and times for the intrasquad scrimmages as well as the Pizza Bowl will be announced each week. Additionally, Louisville's annual MLB Scout Day activities are set for Friday, Oct. 5.
The Cardinals enter the fall returning seven starters in the batting order as well as 10 total pitchers from last year's squad, which finished with a 45-19 record overall after advancing to the championship round of an NCAA Regional for the seventh straight season. Louisville also registered its seventh straight 40-win season and the 11th in 12 seasons under McDonnell.
