Cardinals Complete Competition at USA Diving Senior National Championships

Molly Fears, Michaela Sliney, and Daniel Pinto represented the Cardinals in Dallas, Texas.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville diving team wrapped up two weeks of competition in Dallas, Texas this weekend at the USA Diving Senior National Championships. The competition served as trials for the FINA Diving World Cup, which is slated to take place in Wuhan, China from June 5-10.
Representing the Cardinals were freshman Daniel Pinto and sophomores Michaela Sliney and Molly Fears.
The first week of competition served as the preliminaries for the meet. On 1-meter, Fears finished sixth with a score of 223.05, while Sliney placed 24th with a score of 189.95. In the men's event, Pinto finished fifth with a score of 292.15.
On 3-meter, Fears finished 17th with a score of 224.00, followed by Sliney in 30th with a 201.30. Pinto scored a 328.00 to finish fourth overall in the men's discipline.
To cap of the first week of competition, Sliney finished 35th with a score of 144.05. On 3-meter, Fears finished 18th with a score of 200.35 after scoring a 225.45 in quarterfinals. Sliney placed 45th with a score of 154.25.
After scoring a 232.20 in quarterfinals and a 217.30 in semifinals, Fears earned a spot in the finals on platform, finishing 12th overall with a score of 211.00. Sliney placed 15th overall in the event with a score of 174.75 after registering a 214.95 in the quarterfinals.
Competing at his first USA Diving Nationals, Pinto represented the Cardinals on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards in the second week of competition. In the 1-meter, he finished 16th nationally with a score of 246.55, while finishing 17th in the 3-meter after diving in both quarterfinals and semifinals with a score of 276.05.
Fears and Sliney competed in each of the three events during the second weekend of Nationals. On 1-meter, Fears finished ninth in the nation with a score of 215.20, while Sliney finished 35th with a score of 144.05. On 3-meter, Fears finished 18th with a score of 200.35 after scoring a 225.45 in quarterfinals. Sliney placed 45th with a score of 154.25.
