Women’s Golf Tied for Seventh After First Day of NCAA Championships

Lauren Hartlage paced the Cardinals with a 1-over-par 73.
STILLWATER, Okla. – Lauren Hartlage shot a 1-over-par 73 on Friday at the opening day of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships, leading the University of Louisville into a tie for seventh in Stillwater, Okla.
The sophomore is tied on the individual leaderboard for 19th capping the day with 14 pars and two birdies.
Louisville, which is playing in its second NCAA Championships as a team in program history, shot a 13-over-par 301. The Cardinals, who played in the morning wave, sit within three strokes of the top five. Southern California is the clubhouse leader in a 24-team field at 3-over-par 291.
Delaney Shah, Molly Skapik, Olivia Cason, and Kristin Engle each compiled a 4-over-par 76.
Skapik claimed the highlight of the day with her eagle on No. 18. The senior clubbed out of the rough following her tee shot and chipped in on a par-5, 482-yard hole.
Shah and Cason each finished the opening day on strong notes. The sophomore, Shah went 1-under-par over her final five holes. Cason, who previously played at the national championships as an individual in 2016, earned par on her final four holes.
Louisville returns to action on Saturday for the second round, teeing off with Baylor and Virginia from hole No. 1, starting at 2:21 p.m. ET.
The top-15 teams following Sunday's round advance to an additional round of stroke play on Monday. The top-eight teams then move into a match-play format to determine the national champion. The quarterfinals and semifinals take place Tuesday, with the NCAA Championship on Wednesday.
