Molly Skapik paced the Cardinals with a 1-under-par 71.
STILLWATER, Okla. – Molly Skapik carded a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Championships, helping keep the University of Louisville women's golf team in contention in Stillwater, Okla.
Skapik, who recorded a pair of birdies on the front nine and again on the back nine, is tied for 23rd. The senior, who is producing the best season of her career, sits at 3-over-par 147 through 36 holes. She capped the day with a birdie on No. 18, the same hole she registered an eagle on Friday.
Collectively, the Cardinals fell three spots to 10th in the team race after a 12-over-par 300. Louisville, which had to finish the round in the dark, is six strokes out of the top six.
Louisville, in large part, remained in the top 10 from its play after the turn. The Cardinals' scorers combined to shoot 1-under-par over the final nine holes, remarkably after an interruption in play for nearly 40 minutes due to a lightning delay.
Should Louisville remain in the top 15 in the standings following Sunday, it would advance to Monday's fourth round of stroke play. The Cardinals, paired with Washington and Furman, begin the third round on Sunday at 9:36 a.m. ET.
Lauren Hartlage, following a slow start, rallied over her final 10 holes to finish the day at 3-over-par 75. The sophomore, who is tied for 30th, earned par on holes nine through 16 before a bogey on 17. Despite visibility issues, as she played her No. 18 in darkness, Hartlage secured an eagle on a par-5, 482-yard hole, her final one of the day. The Elizabethtown, Ky., native chipped onto the green on her second shot and sank approximately a 40-foot putt.
Delaney Shah, Olivia Cason, and Kristin Engle matched each other for the second-consecutive day, as the trio each shot a 5-over-par 77. Shah, Cason, and Engle are tied for 68th with identical scores of 9-over-par 153.
