Women's Lacrosse Wraps Regular Season at Syracuse on Sunday
April 19, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
The Cardinals and Orange will square off at 1 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse (6-9, 0-6) concludes the regular season when they play at No. 19 Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Â
The Cardinals look to pick up their first ACC win of the season.
"Syracuse is an up-and-down team and they're searching for their first ACC win, as well," said head coach Scott Teeter. "It's their senior day, so both teams will give it their all. We have to remember our senior day last year, which was a great win for us."
Louisville is in the midst of a six-game slide where they have faced four Top 20 opponents. Twice in the last three games they had leads in the second half that they were unable to hold on to.
"From day one, we've said that we want to keep getting better day by day. Even though we're going through a tough stretch right now, we're playing better lacrosse than when we were getting wins early in the year. We're just in a more difficult stretch in our schedule," added Teeter.
Caroline Blalock was voted ILWomen National Rookie of the Week following her four-goal performance against Virginia last Saturday. The freshman from Ellicott City, Md., leads the Cardinals in seven statistical categories, including goals with 41 and hat tricks with nine. Her offensive firepower ranks her second in the league in shots with seven per game, ninth in goals per game with 2.73 and 10th in points per game with 3.53. She also ranks fourth with 1.53 caused turnovers per game and fifth with 2.60 ground balls per game.
Emily Howell tops the ACC standings in ground balls per game, scooping up 2.93 each contest. The senior leads the Cardinals with 41 total ground balls this season, and with 123 so far in her career, she is tied for third-most in program history.
