
Cardinals Send Three Individuals and a Relay to Finals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On the final day of competition at the NCAA Championships, all 13 individual qualifiers and a relay team competed for the University of Louisville women's swimming and diving team. Following the morning's preliminaries, the Cardinals will have competitors in three A finals and one B final.
In the 200 back, Alina Kendzior was the Cardinals' top-finisher, placing 36th in a time of 1:54.96. Ashlyn Schoof completed her first NCAA championships in the same event, touching with a time of 1:55.75.
Mallory Comerford surged off the final wall of the 100 free to take the top seed heading into tonight's finals with a time of 46.88, the only swimmer in the field to break the 47 second mark. Casey Fanz finished 22nd in the event, tying her best time in a 48.43. Lainey Visscher followed just behind in 24th (48.49), while Avery Braunecker recorded a 49.74.
In the 200 breast, Mariia Astashkina qualified 12th overall heading into the finals with a time of 2:08.57. Morgan Friesen also put together an impressive swim for the Cardinals, registering a new best time of 2:09.22 for 18th place overall. Rachael Bradford-Feldman finished off a busy weekend with a time of 2:10.87, and Lauren James stopped the clock in 2:12.31.
Grace Oglesby qualified for her second A final of the weekend, touching the wall in a tie for fourth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.16. The sophomore lowered her ACC championship-winning time by nearly a full second.
The 400 free relay team of Lainey Visscher (48.42), Mallory Comerford (46.58), Arina Openysheva (48.17), and Casey Fanz (48.34) swam to a time of 3:11.51 to qualify another Louisville relay into the A final with the third fastest time of the morning.
Molly Fears closed out her second NCAA Championships with a score of 176.05 on the platform dive to finish 47th overall.
Sophie Cattermole will compete in the timed finals of the 1650 free this afternoon, which are slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. A full rundown of her swim will be included with the recap of tonight's finals.
The Cards will be back in action tonight at 6 p.m. for the last finals session of the Women's NCAA Championships.
