Snider finishes 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Jake Snider had two hits and drove in a run but it was not enough as the No. 4 Louisville baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision to No. 5 Texas Tech in game one of a two-game midweek series Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Red Raiders (16-2) gained command with a three-run fourth inning and never relinquished command in the first ever meeting between the programs. The Cardinals suffered their second straight loss after opening the season with 14 straight victories. Snider paced the way for Louisville finishing with a double and a walk to cap his 2-for-4 day at the plate.
The Red Raiders struck first with their three runs in the top of the fourth inning. After a throwing error by the Cardinals allowed the first run to score, Cameron Warren was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate Josh Jung and Michael Davis earned a bases loaded walk to send John McMillon home.
Louisville plated its first run of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning after sophomore Logan Wyatt scored on an error by Texas Tech. The Red Raiders extended the lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning on a two-run double to right field by Grant Little to score Jung. An inning later, Little delivered a RBI double to right center to plate Jung for the 6-1 advantage.
The Cardinals narrowed the deficit with a run in the bottom of the seventh after Snider drove sophomore Tyler Fitzgerald home with a RBI single to left field. Louisville pulled closer with two more runs in the eighth inning to cut the margin to 6-4. Sophomore Danny Oriente scored the first run on a bases loaded walk to Fitzgerald before a wild pitch sent sophomore Drew Campbell home.
The Red Raiders answered with two runs of their own in the ninth inning after Little connected for a RBI triple and Warren added a RBI single. Little closed the game 5-for-5 with four RBIs, while Jung was 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
The No. 4 Cardinals and No. 5 Red Raiders will conclude their two-game series on Wednesday at noon ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
